Punjab politics: BJP and SAD negotiate seat sharing for 2027

Political negotiations are underway regarding a potential alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. Disagreements persist over seat sharing; reports suggest the BJP is seeking approximately 55 seats, while the SAD is advocating for 45. The BJP has indicated it may choose to contest all 117 seats independently if a respectful agreement is not reached.

Separately, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Badal accused the administration of mismanagement and labeled current educational and administrative issues as a ‘major education scam.’ He further highlighted protests from various sectors, including teachers, PSPCL employees, and MGNREGA workers, regarding unpaid dues, pension schemes, and job security.
