Dominican Republic launches national tourism road signage plan
The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism and RD Vial have launched the National Tourism Road Signage Plan to modernize and standardize directional and preventive signs across the country. The initiative aims to improve road safety and the visitor experience by providing clear guidance to cultural, natural, and beach attractions. The first phase will include La Altagracia, El Seibo, Samaná, Puerto Plata, Pedernales, María Trinidad Sánchez, and Santiago. To further assist international travelers, RD Vial has implemented an English-language assistance line (511).
In other regional developments, Santo Domingo's tourism sector is growing, with the city now capturing 13% of the country's visitors. Meanwhile, ProDominicana reported record-breaking national exports, reaching $9,277 million between January and July 2026, driven largely by gold and tobacco.
Meteorological reports indicate extreme heat across the country, with temperatures reaching 40.2°C in Jimaní, exacerbated by Saharan dust. Indomet advises the population to take precautions against high temperatures and potential brief rains in certain provinces.
