Punta Cana sees rise in experiential tourism

Punta Cana is seeing a significant rise in experiential tourism, with visitors increasingly seeking adventure and nature-based activities to complement their stays. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Republic received over 6.6 million visitors during the first half of 2026, marking a 7.7% increase compared to the previous year.

This growth is driven by a trend toward personalized travel that combines relaxation with exploration and culture. Diversifying the tourism offering through excursions and activities outside of hotels is boosting the local economy by integrating services such as specialized guides and transportation.

As an example of this trend, Bávaro Adventure Park recorded approximately 42,562 visitors in July 2026, averaging nearly 1,372 people per day. The park features experiences such as the Sacred River, the first underground river within an adventure park in the Dominican Republic.
