Dominican Republic leaders call for enhanced technical education
Business leaders and government officials in the Dominican Republic are calling for increased investment in technical and higher education to meet evolving market demands.
Tourism entrepreneur Frank Rainieri emphasized the need for public investment in technical training, specifically suggesting the creation of two-year 'Junior College' programs in tourist hubs like Punta Cana and Samaná to provide immediate workforce readiness.
Minister of Higher Education Rafael Santos Badía urged the private sector to expand its role through scholarships and research funding. He noted that private participation could significantly complement government efforts, citing recent scholarship initiatives by Humano Seguros as a model.
Additionally, Grupo SID Executive President Ligia Bonetti highlighted the importance of developing professionals who possess not only technical knowledge but also the capacity for continuous learning, decision-making, and adaptability to keep pace with rapid industry changes.
