PUSHAN evaluates Prabowo-Gibran administration's legal sector performance
The Association for the Study of Government Law and Anti-Corruption (PUSHAN) has assessed the legal sector performance during the first two years of the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration. During a media discussion in Jakarta, PUSHAN assigned a score of eight out of ten to the legal sector, noting a constructive and positive trend in law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts.
Executive Director Oce Madril attributed this progress primarily to strong political will from the nation's highest leadership. Madril emphasized that in a developing democracy, decisive signals from the President are crucial to ensure law enforcement agencies can operate independently without interference from political, business, or power interests. The assessment noted a relative lack of intervention in legal proceedings during this period.
Despite the positive score, PUSHAN identified several upcoming challenges, including the need for consistent anti-corruption enforcement in strategic sectors such as mining and finance, as well as addressing legal mafias and strengthening regulatory frameworks.
