Russia and Syria discuss reorganization of Hmeimim and Tartus military sites

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara held a telephone conversation to discuss the deepening of bilateral relations and the reorganization of Russian military facilities in Syria.

The leaders focused on a memorandum of understanding signed on August 9, which outlines the reorganization of activities at the Hmeimim Air Base in Latakia and the naval logistics center in Tartus. This agreement seeks to establish new frameworks for military and logistical coordination following the political changes in Syria.

During the call, Putin reaffirmed Russia's support for Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He also expressed Russia's rejection of Israeli military actions and violations of Syrian sovereignty. Both leaders agreed to continue high-level coordination to promote regional stability and expand cooperation in economic, trade, and humanitarian sectors.
