Putin emphasizes Asia-Pacific economic role at Eastern Economic Forum

At the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the Asia-Pacific region as a primary driver of global economic growth. He stated that Russia aims to transform the Russian Far East into a hub for economic development, focusing on infrastructure, technology, and skilled workforce development through cooperation with regional partners.

During the forum, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto discussed expanding bilateral trade and proposed direct maritime and air connectivity between Indonesia and Vladivostok. He noted that a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union is expected to take effect in early 2027. China’s Ding Xuexiang also reaffirmed Beijing’s role as a principal trading partner for Russia’s Far East.

Diplomatic discussions regarding the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China suggest a potential meeting between President Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. While no formal preparations have begun, Russian officials have not ruled out the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving the leaders of Russia, China, and the United States. Kremlin officials noted that recent engagements between Russian and U.S. representatives reflect a strengthening atmosphere of trust.
