Pyrgos: Man arrested for attempting to scam elderly woman
A man was arrested in the Pyrgos area of Greece following an attempted fraud targeting an elderly woman. The suspect allegedly impersonated an accountant during a phone call, claiming the woman owed money to the tax authorities. He instructed her to place her cash in a bag and leave it outside her home.
The woman suspected the scam and alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and observed two men approaching in a vehicle. Upon noticing the police, the suspects attempted to flee. One man was subsequently intercepted by traffic police on the Pyrgos–Kyparissia National Road and taken into custody.
Authorities seized a vehicle, 220 euros, a key, and various documents. Investigations revealed that the arrested individual had previously had his driver's license revoked for driving under the influence. He faces charges of attempted fraud in conspiracy and traffic violations, while police continue to search for his accomplice.
