Qantas increases flight capacity for football finals series

Qantas and Jetstar have significantly increased flight capacity to accommodate high demand for the upcoming football finals series. The airlines have already added over 30 flights and approximately 8,000 seats to facilitate travel between Western Australia and Melbourne for the Grand Final.

Following a surge in demand after the Fremantle Dockers secured a preliminary final against Sydney, Qantas added a specific Boeing 737 flight from Perth to Sydney scheduled for Thursday, September 17. Western Australian Premier Roger Cook has also called on major airlines to provide additional flights to Sydney to support traveling supporters.

In addition to domestic Australian routes, Qantas has added more than 1,000 extra seats across the Tasman to assist New Zealanders traveling to Sydney for the NRL Grand Final in October. Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson noted that fans have been booking travel earlier than in previous years, prompting the airline to keep additional aircraft and crews on standby to maintain flexibility.
