Qantas flight capacity increases for football finals
Overview
Qantas and Jetstar have expanded flight capacity to meet high travel demand during the football finals series. The airlines added over 30 flights and approximately 8,000 seats to facilitate travel between Western Australia and Melbourne for the Grand Final, following increased booking activity after the Fremantle Dockers secured a preliminary final.
To support traveling fans, Qantas added a Boeing 737 flight from Perth to Sydney. Additionally, more than 1,000 extra seats were added across the Tasman to assist New Zealanders traveling to Sydney for the NRL Grand Final in October. Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson noted that fans have been booking travel earlier than in previous years, leading the airline to keep extra aircraft and crews on standby.
