Qantas passenger charged after allegedly attempting to open plane door mid-flight

A 41-year-old man, Thomas Raymond Forster, has been charged following an incident on a Qantas flight from Karratha to Perth. Police allege that during the flight, Forster verbally abused a fellow passenger and physically kicked and pushed the seat in front of him.

As the aircraft prepared to land, Forster allegedly ignored cabin crew instructions to fasten his seatbelt and attempted to open a passenger door while the plane was still in flight. Upon landing at Perth Airport, Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers met the aircraft and escorted him from the plane, where he reportedly became aggressive toward the officers.

Forster faces several charges, including endangering the safety of an aircraft, causing harm to a Commonwealth official, failing to comply with crew instructions, and disorderly behavior. The charge of endangering aircraft safety carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. He was granted bail in the Perth Magistrates Court and the matter is adjourned until November 27.
