Qatar pursues diplomacy to revive US-Iran negotiations
Qatar is actively pursuing diplomatic initiatives to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table to reduce regional tensions. Majed Al Ansari, a spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, stated that officials are engaged in daily communications to facilitate these discussions.
Qatar has emphasized that its primary objectives include restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and protecting global energy and food security. Al Ansari noted that any further escalation in the region would negatively impact both the local area and the global economy.
Regarding economic pressure, Qatar characterized recent U.S. sanctions against Iran as unilateral measures rather than United Nations mandates. Meanwhile, Iranian official Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Tehran will not accept end-of-war conditions imposed by aggressive parties and intends to use all available capacities to counter new U.S. economic measures announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
