Qatar mediates ongoing US-Iran negotiations and regional security talks

Qatar has confirmed that indirect negotiations and message exchanges between the United States and Iran are ongoing through Doha and its regional partners. Ibrahim bin Sultan Al-Hashmi, a spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, stated that these diplomatic efforts aim to achieve progress on various issues despite the ongoing regional conflict.

During a meeting in Doha, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held productive talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The Emir presented new assessments and proposals to be conveyed to the Iranian president. Qatar also expressed openness to hosting an Iranian delegation to discuss developments regarding Iranian pilots.

Regarding regional security, Qatar expressed support for Saudi Arabian measures to maintain sovereignty and stability, specifically condemning Houthi attacks. While acknowledging the Mecca Defense Alliance involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, Al-Hashmi noted it is too early to discuss Qatar joining the alliance.

Qatar warned that the global community is paying a heavy price for the conflict, which has disrupted international trade and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
