Qatar announces massive solar plant project in Lebanon

During a visit to Beirut, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced a major energy cooperation initiative with Lebanon. QatarEnergy has reached an agreement with the French firm TotalEnergies to jointly develop a massive solar power plant in Lebanon. This project is intended to address the country's chronic electricity crisis and will be funded, implemented, and operated by the Qatari side at no cost to the Lebanese state.

Beyond energy, the Qatari leader emphasized support for the Lebanese army and the nation's sovereignty. He expressed Qatar's support for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territories and the subsequent handover of control to the Lebanese military.

Addressing regional security, the Qatari official warned that Hezbollah's involvement in a new conflict would bring severe consequences to both the group and Lebanon. He noted that in such a scenario, Washington might be unable to restrain Israel, and Lebanon would lack international support. Qatar expressed its readiness to act as a mediator to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into a broader confrontation between Israel and Iran.
