Qatari Prime Minister to visit Beirut for high-level political talks

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is scheduled to visit Beirut to hold meetings with Lebanon’s top political leaders, including Joseph Aoun, Nabih Berri, and Nawaf Salam. The visit aims to revitalize Qatar’s diplomatic presence in Lebanon and address critical political, security, and economic issues.

Key topics on the agenda include de-escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, supporting the Lebanese Army, and addressing the country’s energy and electricity needs. Lebanese officials are expected to discuss the role of international forces in the south and leverage Qatar’s international connections to maintain stability. Additionally, the visit coincides with efforts to advance Lebanese-Israeli negotiations under American auspices, with a focus on upcoming negotiation rounds in Florida.

This diplomatic push comes as Qatar seeks to re-engage with Lebanese affairs following a period of reduced activity. The mission also touches upon regional stability, given Qatar’s role in communications between Washington and Tehran and its interest in improving Syrian-Lebanese relations.
