Quad Nations Launch Indo‑Pacific Energy Security Initiative

On 26 May 2026, the foreign ministers of the United States, India, Australia and Japan met in New Delhi and issued a joint statement to strengthen energy security across the Indo‑Pacific region. The four countries pledged to keep oil, gas and other essential resources flowing securely and reliably, to diversify supply chains and reduce dependence on any single source, and to safeguard key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The declaration includes the creation of a "Quad Initiative on Indo‑Pacific Energy Security" and the establishment of a regular "Quad Fuel Security Forum" for coordinated policy, technology and emergency‑response cooperation. Australia announced a US$2 billion investment to support the effort, while Japan’s PWRR programme, India’s support to South Asian neighbours, and work to strengthen ASEAN electricity grids are cited as complementary regional actions.

The initiative also emphasises assistance to small island and developing states that are particularly vulnerable to energy disruptions, aiming to make regional energy markets more stable, transparent and resilient.
