Qualiano woman dies from West Nile virus

A 72-year-old woman, Silvana D’Alterio, has died in Qualiano, near Naples, after contracting the West Nile virus. Despite having no prior underlying health conditions, the infection proved fatal following a period of critical hospitalization.

Qualiano Mayor Raffaele De Leonardis expressed deep sorrow over the death, noting that the local administration is maintaining constant communication with health authorities. In addition to the deceased, three other individuals in the area have been reported as infected, with two currently in the rehabilitation phase.

Local health officials have not reported any new cases in the approximately ten days leading up to the announcement, suggesting no immediate new phase of viral spread in the territory.
