Quang Ninh shifts from coal to heritage-based economic growth

Quang Ninh is transitioning its economic model from a reliance on coal mining, often referred to as ‘black gold,’ toward a ‘green’ growth strategy centered on its heritage assets. The province aims to leverage its extensive natural, cultural, and historical resources to drive a new era of heritage-based economic development.

With over 600 historical and cultural sites and more than 360 intangible cultural heritage assets, the region is integrating culture, tourism, and creative industries. Key landmarks such as Ha Long Bay and the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac complex serve as the foundation for this shift. The province's development strategy for the 2025-2030 term focuses on linking culture with cultural industries, the night economy, and urban economics to enhance competitiveness and international cooperation.

In the digital age, the province is also seeing increased visibility through social media and travel influencers, who share authentic experiences of local landscapes and traditional cuisine, such as Ha Long squid sausage and Van Don sea worms, helping to shape the destination's global image.
