Quang Tri completes excavation of over 22,800 martyr graves
The Quang Tri Provincial Military Command has completed a major phase of its “500-day campaign to intensify the search, collection, and identification of martyr remains.” Over a 190-day period, authorities excavated 22,864 martyr graves across 130 cemeteries within the province.
During this process, officials collected 13,221 biological samples for DNA testing and completed sampling for 73 newly recovered remains. Additionally, the campaign has successfully located and collected 175 sets of martyr remains.
The collected biological samples will now undergo DNA analysis and information cross-referencing to identify the individuals and their hometowns. Following the excavations, military forces worked with local residents to clean and restore the cemeteries. The province aims to collect a total of 430 sets of martyr remains by the end of the 500-day campaign.
