Quang Tri Police warn of delivery driver impersonation scam

The Quang Tri Provincial Police have issued a warning regarding a sophisticated scam involving individuals impersonating delivery drivers. The alert follows an incident where a resident in Dong Hoi Ward, Quang Tri, was targeted by scammers who possessed highly accurate details about his recent Facebook purchase.

On August 18, 2026, the victim received calls from individuals claiming to be shippers. The scammers pressured him to urgently transfer 730,000 VND to a specific VIB bank account under the name Nguyen Manh Hung, citing a delivery deadline. The scammers demonstrated high levels of detail, correctly identifying the specific items and the exact invoice amount, which added a layer of perceived legitimacy to the fraudulent request.

The victim avoided the trap by noticing inconsistencies, specifically that the order had only been placed one day prior and typically requires two to four days for delivery. Upon verifying the shipment status, he confirmed the package was still in transit and had not yet reached his location. Authorities warn that scammers use this combination of accurate personal data and time pressure to trick online shoppers into making immediate transfers.
