Quart de Poblet unveils memorial sculpture for Francoist victims

The municipality of Quart de Poblet has unveiled a new sculpture titled ‘El Pes de la Memòria’ to honor 14 local residents executed by the Franco regime between 1939 and 1942. Created by artist Miguel Borrego, the piece is located in Valldecabres Square.

During the official ceremony, Mayor Cristina Mora stated that the monument serves as a permanent site for recognition and reflection, aiming to integrate the memory of those who suffered repression into the daily landscape of the town. Mora emphasized that a democratic society is defined by how it treats those who were left behind and expressed a desire for historical consensus that identifies both victims and perpetrators of violence.
