Quebec citizens protest wind energy development in Quebec City

Citizens and regional delegations from eight areas of Quebec, including Bas-Saint-Laurent, Montérégie, and Lanaudière, are mobilizing in Quebec City to demand a moratorium on wind energy development. The protest, organized by the Regroupement vigilance énergie Québec (RVÉQ), aims to bring the issue of wind power into the provincial election debate.

The demonstrators are calling for an immediate sectoral or regional environmental assessment to ensure wind farm impacts do not exceed the environment's carrying capacity. They are also demanding an end to what they describe as the appropriation of territory without local consent, insisting that energy production remains public and that a genuine public debate regarding the future of Quebec's energy occurs.

Participants plan to form a 210-meter human representation of an industrial wind turbine near the National Assembly. Critics of the current model, such as the Bas-Saint-Laurent delegation, argue that development is currently proceeding without transparency or public debate, impacting landscapes, agricultural lands, and local identities.
