Queen Budapest 4K restored concert film released in theaters

A 4K restored version of Queen’s 1986 Budapest concert, titled ‘Queen Budapest’, has launched in cinemas and IMAX theaters worldwide. The film captures the band’s performance at Budapest’s Népstadion on July 27, 1986, during ‘The Magic Tour’. This event was notable as the first major Western stadium rock show held behind the Iron Curtain.

The restoration was conducted by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production studio in New Zealand, using original 35mm footage. The audio has been rebuilt from original multitrack recordings into a Dolby Atmos mix. The theatrical release includes new interviews with band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

In 1986, the concert saw all 80,000 tickets sold out, with an estimated 45,000 additional fans listening from outside the venue. The film will be shown in more than 2,000 cinemas across over 50 territories for a limited engagement.
