Queen: Budapest concert film to receive global 4K theatrical release

The legendary concert film ‘Queen: Budapest’ is set for a global theatrical release, marking the 40th anniversary of the band’s historic performance at Budapest’s Népstadion on July 27, 1986. This concert was a landmark event, as Queen became the first Western rock band to perform behind the ‘Iron Curtain’ with government authorization.

Produced by Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production, the film has been meticulously restored from original 35mm film into 4K resolution. The audio has also been newly remixed from original multi-track recordings to provide an immersive experience. The film captures the band at their peak, featuring hits such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Will Rock You’, and ‘Under Pressure’, as well as an acoustic arrangement of the Hungarian folk song ‘Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt’.

In Japan, the film will see special screenings, including IMAX and Dolby Atmos releases at various TOHO Cinemas locations. The 4K digital restoration was carried out by the film lab of the National Film Institute Hungary (NFI), which has preserved the original materials since 1986.
