Queen Budapest concert film to release in cinemas and IMAX
The concert film ‘Queen Budapest’ is set for a global theatrical release starting October 7, featuring the band’s historic 1986 performance at Budapest’s Népstadion. Remastered in 4K from 35mm film, the production will be shown in standard theaters and IMAX venues.
Recorded during the ‘Magic Tour,’ this performance marks the final filmed live appearance of Freddie Mercury with Queen. The event held significant historical weight as the first Western rock concert held in a stadium behind the Iron Curtain, occurring three years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Hungarian government supported the production, deploying a team of top cinematographers and technicians to film the event using 17 cameras and approximately 40 kilometers of film.
The concert drew an audience of 80,000 inside the stadium, with an estimated 45,000 more watching from outside. The repertoire includes iconic tracks such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ ‘We Are the Champions,’ and ‘Under Pressure,’ as well as an acoustic arrangement of the traditional Hungarian folk song ‘Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt.’
