Queen Budapest concert film to release in cinemas on October 7
Sony Music Vision has announced the global cinematic release of ‘Queen Budapest’, a film documenting the band Queen’s historic 1986 concert at the Népstadion in Budapest. The film is scheduled to premiere in cinemas and IMAX theaters worldwide on October 7.
Recorded on July 27, 1986, during the ‘Magic Tour’, the event marked the first time a Western rock band performed behind the Iron Curtain. The concert was a massive success, with 80,000 tickets sold out and an estimated 45,000 additional fans listening outside the stadium. The operation received unprecedented approval from the Hungarian communist government.
This release serves as the last recorded live performance of the band. The film has been meticulously restored in 4K from original 35mm footage by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road post-production facility in New Zealand, featuring remixed audio from the original multi-track recordings.
