Queen Letizia welcomes Dominican and other Latin American scholarship recipients in Spain
Queen Letizia of Spain received a group of young scholars from the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Peru at the Zarzuela Palace. The students are beneficiaries of a scholarship program run by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation together with Banco ADOPEM and other local micro‑finance entities. The scheme covers 100% of university tuition, provides a laptop, academic and psychological support, and aims to enable children of vulnerable entrepreneurs to attend university for the first time in their families.
The audience included the first six Dominican scholars of the Banco ADOPEM initiative and 16 scholars from three Latin American countries supported by BBVA’s foundation. Officials highlighted that, since its launch in 2020, the program has helped 181 young people and plans to expand further, including a rollout to Panama. A virtual exhibition in the metaverse honored the late Colombian scholar Mario Naicipa, whose family presented a tribute during the meeting.
