Queen Silvia of Sweden visits Düsseldorf for school opening and child welfare award

Queen Silvia of Sweden visited Düsseldorf to participate in several official events, including the inauguration of the new location of Luisen-Gymnasium. The Queen, who graduated from the school in 1963, attended the opening alongside North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister for Schools and Education, Dorothee Feller, and Düsseldorf Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller.

During her visit, the Queen was also honored with the 'Düsseldorf Prize for Child Welfare 2026'. The award recognizes her decades of commitment to protecting children's rights and preventing violence and abuse worldwide. This work is largely channeled through the World Childhood Foundation, which she founded in 1999 and which has supported over 2,000 projects in 21 countries.

In addition to the school inauguration and the award ceremony, the Queen's itinerary included an entry into the city's Golden Book at the Düsseldorf City Hall.
