Queen's Budapest Concert Film Released for 40th Anniversary
A fully restored 4K version of Queen’s historic 27 July 1986 performance at Budapest’s Népstadion will debut worldwide in cinemas and IMAX on 7 October 2026. The concert, part of the band’s Magic Tour, was the first Western stadium rock show behind the Iron Curtain and drew 80,000 ticket‑holders, with an estimated 45,000 fans listening from outside the venue.
The film, titled “Queen Budapest,” was shot on 35 mm by 17 Hungarian cameramen, using 25 miles of film, and has been remixed from the original multitrack recordings. Sony Music Vision is handling the release, marking its first official partnership with Queen’s catalog. In addition to the theatrical run, the concert recording will be issued on Blu‑ray, DVD, 3‑LP, 2‑CD and digital formats on 30 October 2026.
The release commemorates the 40th anniversary of the concert, which was also the last filmed live performance featuring Freddie Mercury before the band’s final tour ended a month later at Knebworth Park.
