Queens police increase patrols after fatal beating in Rufus King Park

The NYPD has increased police presence in and around Rufus King Park in Queens following two recent violent incidents. On Tuesday morning, a 53-year-old man was fatally beaten near the park entrance at 89th Avenue and 153rd Street. Investigators believe the assailant used a piece of wood from a nearby debris pile to strike the victim, who suffered severe head trauma. The man was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. While the city medical examiner will determine the official cause of death, the case is being investigated as a homicide.

This fatal assault follows a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, when a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg near the same park. In response to the violence, police have deployed marked patrol vehicles, foot officers, and unmarked units to the area. Local residents expressed concern regarding safety in the park, which serves as a frequent gathering place for families.
