Violence near Rufus King Park in Queens

Overview

A series of violent incidents near Rufus King Park in Queens, New York, has prompted an increased police presence in the area.

On a Sunday afternoon, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg near the intersection of 153rd Street and Jamaica Avenue. The gunman, described as wearing an all-black outfit, fled the scene on foot. The teenager was transported to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Following this, a 53-year-old man was fatally beaten near the park entrance at 89th Avenue and 153rd Street. Investigators believe the assailant used a piece of wood to strike the victim, causing severe head trauma. The man was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

In response to these events, the NYPD has deployed marked patrol vehicles, foot officers, and unmarked units to the vicinity of the park.
