Queensland police arrest two after multi-day crime spree

Two men have been arrested following a multi-day crime spree across Queensland that involved the theft of multiple firearms, several vehicles, and an attack on law enforcement. The incident began on August 24 in Childers, where approximately a dozen guns were allegedly stolen from a residence.

The spree escalated between August 27 and 28, spanning from the Wide Bay region to the Sunshine Coast. During the chaos, suspects allegedly stole a Mitsubishi Triton, which was later found burnt out at Lake Macdonald, and a Nissan Maxima in Cooroy.

During a high-speed pursuit on the Bruce Highway, the driver allegedly rammed a police vehicle. In the Noosa Heads area, the suspect is accused of firing a single shot from a long-arm firearm at a POLAIR helicopter and a police vehicle. Following the shooting, the driver reportedly fled on foot, entered a home, and held a woman at gunpoint to steal her Toyota Yaris.

Police have charged the suspects with various offenses, including firearms theft, arson, and vehicle theft. Inspector John Mahony described the actions of the officers as “incredibly courageous” given the presence of a high-calibre firearm.
