Queensland rainfall impacts property sales and grain harvests
Widespread rainfall across Queensland is creating divergent outcomes for the agricultural sector. In southwest Queensland, heavy rain has delayed the sale of the Boanbirra Aggregation, a 40,198-hectare grazing operation comprising the Boanbirra, Fernlee, and Donna Downs properties. The expression of interest deadline for the estate of Sinclair Hill has been extended to November 30 to allow potential buyers to inspect the wet land.
In the Darling Downs region, the unseasonable October rain is causing difficulties for grain growers. While the moisture is welcomed by graziers, wheat producers report that the timing is detrimental to harvest quality. Some producers, such as Tristan Nitschke, have noted that the rain arrived just as crops were ready for harvest, potentially compromising the quality of wheat that had previously shown promise despite a dry growing season.
