Jefferson Dias da Silva, the Municipal Secretary of Economic Development for Queimados and former city councilman, was shot and killed by Military Police on Monday night. The incident occurred on Avenida Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, near the Marinha Mercante BRT station.

Video footage captured by motorists shows police officers firing shots at the victim's BYD vehicle during a traffic stop. While preliminary reports and witnesses suggest the driver may have failed to comply with a police order to stop, the exact circumstances of the encounter are under investigation.

Acting Governor Ricardo Couto has ordered the immediate suspension of the involved officers. The Military Police have seized the officers' weapons and opened an internal investigation through the General Corregedoria. Simultaneously, the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) is conducting a criminal investigation, which includes analyzing body camera footage and eyewitness videos.

Queimados Mayor Glauco Kaizer has declared three days of official mourning and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the official, who was a member of the Christian Democracy (DC) party.
