Querétaro approves 43.5-hectare land donation for environmental conservation

The Querétaro City Council has approved the donation of more than 43.5 hectares of land to the Querétaro Trust for Environmental Conservation (FIQMA). Located in the Epigmenio González delegation, north of the El Nuevo Refugio residential area and the Fray Junípero Serra ring road, the property has an estimated cadastral value of approximately 76.7 million pesos.

The land features natural vegetation and conditions that facilitate water catchment, soil retention, and carbon dioxide capture. Additionally, the municipality noted that the area helps reduce the risk of landslides toward nearby residential zones. The administration estimates the conservation efforts will directly benefit 43,127 people and indirectly impact over one million residents.

This donation is part of an ongoing commitment by Mayor Felifer Macías to transfer land for environmental conservation during each council session. During the same session, council members also approved the creation of the Animal Welfare Commission for the 2024-2027 period.
