Querétaro environmental land conservation efforts

Overview

The Querétaro City Council and Mayor Felifer Macías have initiated a series of land donations to the Querétaro Trust for Environmental Conservation (FIQMA) to support ecological preservation.

In mid-August, the council approved the donation of 43.5 hectares in the Epigmenio González delegation. This land, valued at approximately 76.7 million pesos, is intended to facilitate water catchment, soil retention, and carbon dioxide capture while reducing landslide risks for nearby residential areas.

Following this, the City Council approved the donation of 12.5 hectares consisting of two urban plots in the Epigmenio González delegation, located north of the La Espiga subdivision and the Fray Junípero Serra ring road. These plots have a combined cadastral value of approximately 345,877,000 pesos and are intended to support reforestation, temperature regulation, and water catchment, benefiting over 16,533 residents.

In early September, authorities approved the donation of an 84,843-square-meter urban plot in the Epigmenio González delegation. Valued at over 234 million pesos, this land is designated for ecological conservation to protect natural resources and improve air quality.

These actions align with Mayor Macías’s municipal strategy to transfer at least one property to FIQMA during every council session to increase the city’s protected environmental surface and prevent the conversion of non-urbanizable land into urban zones.
