Querétaro declares state of emergency for 2026 rain season

Governor Carmen Galván Mauricio Kuri González issued a formal state of emergency for Querétaro on 3 July 2026, covering all 18 municipalities. The decree responds to an unusually active tropical‑storm season, with forecasts of 18‑21 Pacific cyclones and 11‑15 Atlantic cyclones, and to reservoir levels that averaged 41 % of capacity by 21 May, with several sites exceeding 90 % and one at full capacity.

The emergency order authorises state agencies to allocate human, material and financial resources for flood‑prevention, landslide monitoring, infrastructure protection and social assistance. It calls for extensive civil‑protection actions: risk‑map production, drainage cleaning, vigilant patrols of critical zones, and coordination with municipal authorities. Citizens are urged to avoid crossing swollen rivers, to drive cautiously on wet roads, to heed 911 alerts and to seek shelter when heavy rain, strong winds or rapid river rises occur.

The measure remains in force until conditions improve and the identified risks no longer threaten public safety, health or property.
