Querétaro proposes judicial reform to align with federal standards

The Querétaro State Executive has submitted a judicial reform initiative to the state legislature. The proposal aims to adjust the judicial election date to 2028 and incorporates updates from recent federal reforms to address previous errors.

Guillermo Vega Guerrero, president of the Commission for Administration and Justice, stated that the reform includes new requirements for judicial candidates. Beyond holding a university degree and a specific grade point average, aspirants must now undergo an evaluation process to ensure practical competency in judicial duties, such as conducting hearings and managing evidence.

The initiative also modifies the composition of the Judicial Administration Body and the Judicial Discipline Tribunal. While the original state proposal suggested a distribution of five seats among the three branches of government (two for the Legislative, two for the Judicial, and one for the Executive), the new proposal aligns with federal mandates, granting the Judicial branch three seats, the Legislative one, and the Executive one.
