Quilmes: 12-day-old infant dies after avocado falls from tree

A 12-day-old infant has died in Quilmes, Buenos Aires province, after being struck in the head by a large avocado falling from a tree. The incident occurred near a kindergarten while the baby was being held by his mother.

The impact caused multiple skull fractures and severe hemorrhaging. After the injury, the child was rushed to the Sanatorio de la Trinidad in Quilmes, where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in intensive care. Despite medical efforts, the infant passed away on Sunday.

The mother reported that the trees in the area produce fruit weighing over one kilogram and noted that there had been previous requests for the trees to be maintained. Local authorities, specifically UFIJ No. 9 of Quilmes, have opened an investigation into the case, classifying it as “lesiones culposas” (involuntary injuries).
