Quilombola communities to receive R$ 100.9 million in Samarco reparations

Approximately R$ 100.9 million has been approved to support Quilombola families affected by the Samarco dam failure in Mariana, Minas Gerais. Under Resolution CRD No. 34, these funds are designated as Family Support Funds (VAF) to assist communities impacted by the Fundão dam collapse.

The distribution of the R$ 100,955,488.47 total is allocated as follows:

• Sapê do Norte (covering São Mateus and Conceição da Barra): R$ 92,735,715.87 • Degredo (Linhares): R$ 6,375,683.92 • Santa Efigênia (Mariana): R$ 1,844,088.68

These projects were approved by the Rio Doce Committee as part of the New Rio Doce Agreement, specifically under Annex 3, which outlines reparations for indigenous peoples, Quilombola communities, and other traditional populations. The decision follows a consultation process held in April and May, involving community workshops and assemblies to ensure local participation in the decision-making process.
