Quilpituk Creek wildfire remains out of control in British Columbia

The Quilpituk Creek wildfire, located south of La Casa along Westside Road, remains out of control and is estimated to cover approximately 1,239 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service has been attempting to conduct controlled burns to remove fuel between the fire perimeter and established control lines, though unfavorable weather and smoke conditions have previously postponed these operations.

Crews are monitoring for vigorous surface fire and deep burning in woody debris, which could lead to rapid spot fires due to gusty winds. Structural protection teams are patrolling homes 24/7, and BC Hydro is working to re-energize powerlines and assess danger trees.

Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect with no specific timeline for residents to return home. Central Okanagan Emergency Operations is working on re-entry planning, which includes hazard assessments and water system evaluations. Residents serviced by the Killiney Beach and Westshore Estates water systems are advised that a boil water notice will be required once it is safe to return.
