Quintana Roo approves electoral reforms and addresses legal disputes

The Quintana Roo Congress has approved a constitutional and legal electoral reform aimed at updating the local regulatory framework to align with national standards. Key changes include the formal incorporation of non-reelection principles for specific public offices and new measures to combat nepotism within government structures to improve public service integrity.

The reform also introduces specific regulations for popular consultations to increase citizen participation and updates criteria for proportional representation in the state Congress and municipal governments to preserve political pluralism.

In a separate development, the Electoral Tribunal of Quintana Roo (TEQROO) resolved 17 matters during a public session. These included sanctioning procedures, precautionary measures, and intra-party controversies. Notably, the tribunal revoked certain decisions to allow for the investigation of potential electoral infractions by public servants and ordered the protection of minors' identities in electoral proceedings by requiring the blurring or removal of identifying images.
