Quintana Roo Governor Lezama announces 42% completion of new ISSSTE General Hospital in Chetumal
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa visited the construction site of the new ISSSTE General Hospital in Chetumal, reporting that the project is 42% complete. The 18,000‑square‑meter facility is being converted from an existing city clinic under the direction of ISSSTE Director General Martí Batres.
The hospital will increase bed capacity from 30 to 90 and include emergency services, obstetrics, four operating rooms, a laboratory, a blood bank and advanced imaging equipment. The first stage – ground floor through the second level – is slated for completion in early January 2027, after which the third and fourth levels will be built. The new hospital is intended to serve more than 200,000 residents of Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Bacalar and José María Morelos, aiming to reduce patient transfers and save lives.
