Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama launches tourism promotion and $2.7 bn boulevard project with Spanish hoteliers

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa met with representatives of INVEROTEL, the association of Spanish‑owned hotel chains operating in the Caribbean, to outline a new strategy for the Mexican Caribbean. The plan emphasizes the “Caribe Mexicano: La capital mundial de las vacaciones” promotion campaign, aims to boost air connectivity and attract international investors, and highlights that Quintana Roo recorded 20.2 million tourists in 2025.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing fight against sargassum, noting the collection of more than 93,000 tonnes of the seaweed in 2025 backed by over 455 million pesos of investment in satellite monitoring, specialized vessels and containment barriers. Tourist safety measures were discussed, including a state‑run network of 10,058 video‑surveillance cameras and the upcoming deployment of 42 “Paraderos Seguros” in Cancun’s hotel zone.

A flagship infrastructure initiative, the Cancun‑Isla Blanca Tourist Boulevard, was presented with an estimated cost of 2.733 billion pesos. The project is projected to serve over 1.2 million visitors, generate approximately 14,454 jobs and enhance connectivity for Costa Mujeres, the state’s most occupied hotel destination at 78.5% occupancy.
