Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Signs Mortgage‑Cancellation Deal for Thousands

The government of Quintana Roo and the FOVISSSTE housing fund signed a collaboration agreement to subsidise the cancellation of mortgages for low‑income families. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and FOVISSSTE executive board member Jabnely Maldonado Meza presented 188 mortgage‑release letters – 166 to families in Othón P. Blanco and 22 to beneficiaries in other municipalities – giving them legal certainty over their homes.

The pact will allow up to 27,853 people accredited by FOVISSSTE in the state to access the benefit in the coming years, with about 1,900 expected to do so immediately. Administrative procedures will be simplified, saving each family roughly 7,625 pesos. Lezama highlighted the broader social value of secure housing and acknowledged President Claudia Sheinbaum’s support. FOVISSSTE also announced plans to build 3,500 social‑housing units in Quintana Roo as part of the programme.
