Quintana Roo political opposition forms ahead of 2027 elections

A new political opposition group is forming in Quintana Roo, Mexico, ahead of the 2027 elections. Led by Gustavo Miranda, the coalition includes several individuals with extensive backgrounds in parties such as PAN, MC, PRI, and the former PRD, though they are presenting themselves as “citizens.”

In a document titled “Declaration of Liberty” issued from Playa del Carmen, the group expressed concerns regarding corruption, insecurity, the imposition of outside governors, and the lack of local opportunities. The movement aims to promote self-governance and recover the dignity of the region, drawing historical parallels to the resistance of the Maya people during the Caste War.
