Quintana Roo projects 10,000 new hotel rooms by 2028
Quintana Roo is projecting significant growth in its tourism sector, with plans to add more than 10,000 new hotel rooms by 2028. According to Omar Govea Hernández, subsecretary of Tourism, the expansion will primarily focus on the northern part of the state, specifically in Benito Juárez and Costa Mujeres, targeting higher-income travelers. While the north remains a major hub, the state also anticipates real estate and tourism developments in the central and southern regions to diversify the offering beyond traditional sun and beach tourism.
To support this growth, the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ) is strengthening its national and international marketing strategies. The council recently participated in the 2026 Professional Tourism Encounter in Mexico City and conducted roadshows in Houston and Austin, Texas. These efforts aim to present the diverse experiences of the region's 12 destinations to travel agents and industry professionals in priority markets.
