Quintana Roo economic and tourism sector growth

Overview

Quintana Roo is experiencing growth across multiple economic sectors. In the first quarter of 2026, primary economic activities—including agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing, and hunting—grew by 26.7 percent, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). This growth rate placed the state sixth nationally in Mexico.

Building on economic momentum, the state is projecting significant expansion in its tourism sector, with plans to add more than 10,000 new hotel rooms by 2028. Subsecretary of Tourism Omar Govea Hernández stated that expansion will focus on the northern regions of Benito Juárez and Costa Mujeres to target higher-income travelers, while also seeking to diversify offerings in central and southern regions. To support these developments, the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ) is conducting international marketing efforts, including roadshows in Texas, to promote the region’s 12 destinations.
