Quintana Roo reports 361 dengue cases amid heavy rainfall

Quintana Roo has recorded 361 confirmed cases of dengue in 2026, ranking the state sixth nationally in incidence rates. Heavy rainfall in Cancun and northern areas has accelerated the reproduction of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector responsible for transmitting the disease.

Playa del Carmen and the municipality of Othón P. Blanco are the primary hotspots, together accounting for more than half of the state's total infections. In Othón P. Blanco alone, 93 cases have been confirmed. Epidemiological data indicates that adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19 represent the age group with the highest clinical impact.

In response to the surge, health authorities have intensified vector control measures. These include over 400,000 nebulization and fumigation interventions in homes, as well as targeted efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in water deposits. State Health Secretary Flavio Carlos Rosado confirmed that these operations are being conducted in coordination with federal health services to contain the spread in high-density population areas.
