Quito and Bogotá implement traffic restrictions
Traffic restriction measures, known as ‘pico y placa’, are in effect in Quito and Bogotá on Monday, September 7, 2026, to manage urban congestion.
In Quito, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited from circulating during two time slots: 06:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 20:00. Exemptions apply to electric vehicles, official vehicles, and those registered to persons with disabilities or senior citizens. Fines for violations are progressive, starting at $72.30 for a first offense and reaching $241 for third-time offenders.
In Bogotá, the restriction for private vehicles on this odd-numbered day applies to plates ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0, with a prohibition period from 06:00 to 21:00. Taxis and special service vehicles with plates ending in 3 and 4 are restricted from 05:30 to 21:00. Violators in Bogotá face a fine of approximately 604,100 pesos and potential vehicle immobilization.
